A deputy in Montgomery County was injured when he was hit on Interstate 24.

The crash happened Saturday afternoon in the westbound lanes at mile marker 13 while the deputy was conducting a traffic stop.

According to reports, a vehicle went off the shoulder for unknown reasons and hit the deputy’s patrol car from behind.

That pushed the patrol car into the vehicle of the traffic violator he had previously stopped, which then hit the deputy, throwing him onto the interstate.

Authorities said the deputy was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver who hit the patrol vehicle was also taken to the hospital. Officials said the driver the deputy had stopped for the traffic violation was not injured.

Part of the interstate was blocked while crews worked at the scene. The investigation remained ongoing by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
