Officials Give Tips On Avoiding The Flu

Posted

With the season of giving upon us, the flu is one thing no one wants to share with friends and family.

"There are going to be big holiday gatherings, and of course a lot of people are coming from different areas of the country many times,” said Brian Todd with the Metro Public Health Department. “It's good to know if somebody is, let's say, symptomatic with flu or flu-like illness."

There are a few simple tips to protect yourself and your loved ones during those holiday get-togethers.

First of all, get the flu shot. Then be sure to cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough.

"So wash your hands with warm water, soap, with good friction,” Todd said. “That'll stop the spread of germs."

If you're feeling under the weather once the holiday weekend ends, be sure to stay home from work or school.
