An elderly man shot and injured his 52-year-old caregiver before turning the gun on himself, Warren County authorities have confirmed.
The incident happened Wednesday at a home on Center Street in McMinnville.
Officials with the McMinnville Police Department said they were called to the residence after reports of a shooting.
After arriving on the scene, they found that a woman, identified as Melissa Foster, had been shot in her head and back.
She was taken to an area hospital and was said to be recovering from her wounds.
Police said negotiators arrived and ordered 87-year-old Gerald Medley to surrender but he refused.
At some point, investigators said he turned the gun on himself.
The motive for the incident was not known. The shooting remained under investigation.
