Posted

Patients at the VA hospital in Rutherford County had a scare Wednesday when there was a possible active shooter on the Alvin C. York campus.

Tennessee Valley Healthcare System officials said people saw a man outside the hospital with what appeared to be a weapon around 6 p.m.

Authorities said the man was sitting in a vehicle in the parking circle outside of the urgent care center.

They said campus police responded along with Murfreesboro Police officers and Rutherford County Sheriff deputies.

Law enforcement officials said the man pulled a gun on himself, and they were able to take the weapon from him and get him into the center for treatment.

No other details on the incident were available. It was unclear why the man was there or what his intent was.
