A 15-year-old has been charged with killing his aunt before allegedly trying to stab his mother to death inside their Antioch home.
Officials with Metro Nashville Police said 46-year-old Michelle Bergman was killed Monday morning at a home on Rocky Top Court. Her nephew, identified as 15-year-old Matthew Bergman, was the suspected killer.
Although her exact cause of death was still under investigation, police said Bergman was killed around 9 a.m.
When Matthew's mother, identified as 37-year-old Rebecca Bergman, went to check on her, some 11-hours later, police said he stabbed her in the neck.
She escaped to her neighbor's, who called for help. Once police arrived, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
As the investigation continued, new details have emerged that Matthew allegedly went on with his day as if nothing happened.
“After killing his aunt it looks like he cleaned the scene, and then until his mom got home at 5 o’clock, actually cared for two small children who were in the residence,” said Metro Spokesperson Don Aaron.
Those children were said to be 2-years-old and 6-months-old. All of them lived together.
The victims' 67-year-old mother had also been in the home at the time of the incident. She had been asleep and was unaware anything had happened.
Rebecca Bergman was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was treated and released.
Investigators said Matthew Bergman is believed to have had verbal disputes with his aunt Sunday and Monday.
