Emergency crews have resumed their search along the Cumberland River after a 38-year-old man went underwater and did not resurface.

The incident began around 3 p.m. Sunday on the river near the 100 block of 1st Avenue South. Officials with the Nashville Fire Department said they're currently using sonar in the search.

According to witnesses, a man asked for a suit to swim across. He then allegedly began swimming without one, went out a couple dozen feet, and went under.

Crews said the man allegedly took clothing off and left it before getting into the river.

The search was called off late Sunday evening but resumed Monday morning. No further details have been released.
