Embattled Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold appeared in federal court in Nashville.
A hearing was held Tuesday afternoon after allegations emerged that Arnold assaulted his wife in a domestic incident.
Prosecutors presented evidence that he violated the terms of his pre-trial release. Recorded phone calls of his wife talking about the alleged assault was played during the hearing.
She could be heard saying, " I want to make a statement, but I'm f-- scared."
The calls were between Arnold's wife and the former Eagleville police chief, whom she was having an affair with. The former chief had been recording their conversations during the affair.
She went on to say she was afraid of her husband, which is why she didn't want to call police.
"What scared me is when he got me on the bed and had all his body weight on me," she could be heard saying in the recording. "I'm f-- scared for me and the kids...I'm not doing anything b/c you guys won't lock him up immediately"
Arnold – along with his uncle, John Vanderveer, and Joe Russell, an accounting chief at the sheriff’s office – already faces a 14-count federal indictment in his JailCigs case.
The judge was set to make a ruling on Sheriff Arnold's bond Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.
