An employee of the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office has been fired after being indicted on child sex charges.

Authorities said 51-year-old Maurice Marcellus Hegwood was fired from his position after being indicted by a grand jury on August 26.

Hegwood was indicted on one count of displaying sex acts to a minor and one count of harassment, according to reports.

Officials confirmed Hegwood had worked with the sheriff’s office as a security officer and an inmate mail courier. He was initially hired by the department in May 2011.

Documents showed Hegwood was arrested the same day as the indictment. The following day on August 27, he posted a $30,000 bond.

Authorities had not released the specifics of the case. They had also not said his relation to the alleged victim.

Reports also stated Hegwood had threatened the victim through telephone or through writing.

Those with the sheriff’s office said Hegwood was placed on administrative leave August 29. He was officially fired from his position on September 7.

On Thursday, Hegwood remained free on bail. He has been scheduled to be arraigned on the charges in October.
