Move over big box-stores. Mom and pop stores have been taking over the shopping crowds this weekend with Small Business Saturday.
Saturday, NewsChannel 5 caught up with High Note Gifts and Haulin' Oats in East Nashville.
Both are small businesses, so their profits go directly to workers and owners who live in Nashville.
High Note Gifts has specialized in custom baskets and corporate gifts.
Everything they use, whether it's food, candy, or candles, comes from a Nashville small business.
That meant just one basket has benefited multiple local businesses.
"It's a unique option,” said Sarah Loutner, co-founder of High Note Gifts. “It's something that is personal that they are able to send nationwide, and it also benefits our community by establishing something that really creates a character of Nashville and it also gives back economically to the communities in which we live."
Small Business Saturday was started five years ago and has continued to grow.
This year experts predicted $14 billion would be spent at small shops.
