The General Motors plant in Spring Hill is getting an additional product, the company has announced.
The 2017 Acadia was unveiled Tuesday at the Detroit Auto Show. The SUV will be manufactured at the nearly 7-million square foot facility located about 40 miles south of Nashville.
Governor Bill Haslam was on-hand as GM made the announcement.
‘We’re really excited about this vehicle being manufactured at the Spring Hill plant,” Haslam said. “It’s a vehicle that we think will translate in the market very well and we think we have a workforce that will be prepared to crank out a quality product.”
The 2017 Acadia GMC was projected to hit stores in 2017.
The spokesperson for the plant said this means 1,800 people will be able to stay on the job.
A local business in Spring Hill said the majority of their customers for lunch are plant workers.
Selena Hernandez said, “We all came from Chicago. My uncle used to work at a Chicago restaurant so they brought over the idea from there!"
Selena Hernandez works as a cashier at Chicago Express.
She said her family moved to the area from Chicago to open up shop. They serve gyros, hamburgers, and other lunch items.
