Two suspects have been taken into custody after a 16-year-old was shot during what police believe was an attempted robbery in Springfield.

The incident happened Wednesday when authorities received a call from Northcrest Medical Center at 3:23 p.m.

The victim was shot in the back of the head and airlifted in serious condition with a life-threatening injury. However, he is expected to survive.

Police have arrested 20-year-old Timontreous Barbee and charged him with attempted murder and aggravated robbery. Daveion Johnson was also taken into custody but hasn't yet been booked into jail.

According to a preliminary investigation, authorities said the shooting appeared to have been the result of an attempted robbery that took place in the 100 block of Dimaggio Drive.

Officials said two suspects allegedly tried to rob the victim and his friend. One suspect shot the victim.

He was taken to the Northcrest Medical Center by his friend but was later airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center.

The investigation remained ongoing. Anyone with information has been asked to call the Springfield Police Department.
