Officials with the National Weather Service said straight line winds up to 95 miles per hour caused significant damage in Cookeville.

"I ran to the front door, the power went off, and I saw the straight line winds come through," said Jonathan Shuemaker, a Cookeville resident who was home with his wife and five children when the storms hit Saturday night.

A Tornado Warning for Putnam County expired at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, but about three hours later a second round of storms hit.

Strong winds snapped power poles in half, uprooted large trees, and pulled roofing off of some structures.

No one was seriously hurt. As of Sunday afternoon, electric crews were still working to restore power to some parts of town.
