It’s almost been a year since a man was shot and killed at Mona Boat Ramp.

Authorities said 53-year-old Gregg Hawkins was fatally shot on October 16, 2015.

He had been fishing with his daughter when he left her with the boat to walk up to get his truck.

Reports stated Hawkins had allegedly interrupted someone who was breaking into his truck and another truck. Both were parked at the boat ramp.

Hawkins’ murder remained unsolved a year later. Authorities said the reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest was at $50,000. That was with $40,000 raised by family and friends, and $10,000 announced by Governor Bill Haslam.

Detectives said they’re looking for multiple pieces of information, including anyone who may know details on the case, descriptions of those who may have been seen going into or leaving the boat dock between 10:30 and 11 a.m. the day Hawkins was killed, and descriptions of anyone that was seen acting suspiciously in that area that day (including any vehicles that may have been speeding or driving recklessly).

Hawkins was survived by his wife, Janet, his daughters, Brandi Hawkins and Logan Larese, and his brother, Darren.

He worked as a Nissan engineer in Smyrna and was an active member of World Outreach Church.

Those with information on Hawkins’ murder have been urged to call Detective Norrod at 615-904-3043 or Crime Stoppers at 615-893-STOP (615-893-7867).
