The USDA and the Tennessee Department of Human Services teamed up to send a message to child hunger.
The “Take a Hike” walk took place Friday at Bicentennial Capital Mall State Park.
Several people came out and braved the heat to walk around the park to help raise awareness for the growing trend across our state.
The event also served as the kick-off of Tennessee's Summer Meals program.
One in four children do not know where their next meal will be coming from.
There have been a lot of kids who get free or reduced lunch during the school year, but only a small percentage of them currently participate in a summer lunch program. Officials said it’s very important.
The walk has been set to become an annual event, so for anyone who missed it this year, click here to learn how to become involved.
This year's walk was hosted by NewsChannel 5's Bree Smith.
