Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have been investigating at the scene of an officer-involved shooting that resulted in one death.
Officials with the TBI said the incident reportedly happened on Buckner Ridge Road in Hickman County.
Authorities said the incident began as a chase in Dickson County around noon Sunday.
An officer with the Dickson Police Department was pursuing a stolen vehicle, according to reports. The chase ended in Hickman County when the vehicle was stopped at the intersection of Buckner Ridge Road and Bear Creek Road, which was when a second officer also showed up to the scene.
Three people were in the vehicle. The male driver, later identified as 32-year-old Kyle Andrew Lankford, of Burns, allegedly tried to flee on foot and was pursued by an officer.
Reports stated there was a physical altercation between the two, which was when Lankford allegedly pulled a knife out and the officer reportedly fired. Lankford was killed.
A second person remained at the scene and was detained for questioning, and officials said a third person fled from the scene on foot and was still being pursued by officials to be questioned, as well.
Further details were not available as the investigation remained ongoing.
Lankford was involved in a chase in 2015 with the Dickson County Sheriff's Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
They had been searching for him in connection to several thefts, and on December 5, 2015, a state trooper spotted a vehicle with its headlights off in Dickson.
Lankford was in that vehicle and failed to stop when the trooper attempted a traffic stop. A pursuit continued through Dickson into the Tennessee City area with assistance from the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office.
Reports stated Lankford rammed a Dickson County patrol car and crashed. He fled on foot, but was taken into custody minutes later.
The truck had been reported stolen out of Dickson on November 28, 2015, and it contained a lot of property that had been stolen from Humphreys County. Illegal drug making materials were also found.
An investigation led authorities to the recovery of more stolen property and an active methamphetamine lab in the Vanleer area.
Multiple people were charged in the incident. Lankford was charged with vehicular assault, vandalism, DUI 3rd offense, and evading arrest. He also had multiple unrelated active warrants at that time.
In that case he was held in the Dickson County Jail.
