An investigation has gotten underway after an in-custody death happened in Sumner County.
Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said they’re investigating the death that happened early Friday morning.
According to initial reports, a man, identified as 27-year-old Wilson L. Wendell, was arrested overnight by Gallatin Police, and he allegedly had a weapon hidden on himself.
Reports stated that while Wendell was in the backseat of the patrol car, he got the gun out and shot himself.
Wendell was taken to the hospital where he died.
According to reports, he had been arrested following an alleged assault at a Waffle House.
The investigation remained ongoing.
