One person was injured when shot by a Rutherford County deputy during an altercation.

Officials identified the victim as 54-year-old Jeffrey Underhill. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The deputy, who was not identified, responded to a home on the 500 block of Double Springs Road around 3 p.m. Wednesday over a incident that occurred earlier in the week.

During the response, Underhill and the deputy engaged in physical altercations in the driveway.

The deputy suffered minor injuries.
