A driver was pulled over for not wearing his seatbelt, and authorities discovered guns, dozens of pounds of marijuana, and more than $23,000 in cash.

The incident happened Monday afternoon in the 800 block of Boscobel Street.

Authorities said a convicted felon, identified as 26-year-old Dhargham Ateia, was in a 2017 Nissan Altima rental car when an officer stopped him for not wearing his seatbelt.

Officials said a strong odor of marijuana was coming from inside the Altima.

After a search of the car, authorities found two handguns, a small bag of marijuana, and $1,150 in cash.

According to reports, Ateia also had a key to a white Mercedes Benz that had been traveling in front of the rental car.

An investigation led officers to 25-year-old Carla Flores, who had gotten out of the Mercedes and gone inside a home.

Officials said Flores agreed to a search of the Mercedes, and officers found four additional guns, a duffle bag with large clear plastic bags inside which contained around 27 pounds of marijuana, and $22,080 in cash.

One of the guns had been reported stolen.

According to both Ateia and Flores, they had recently rented an Airbnb in that area of Boscobel Street and were planning to live there.

Police said they were both charged with felony marijuana possession, gun possession during the commission of a drug offense, and theft.

Ateia had previous convictions for drug possession and aggravated burglary.

Both Ateia and Flores were being held in lieu of a $75,000 bond each.
