Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department have continued to investigate two separate and unrelated deaths involving nurses from the same hospital.

Last week, 23-year-old Tiffany Ferguson was found stabbed and killed inside her Wedgwood Park condo. It's a case police described as a rare and random act of violence.

Investigators said they are working on strong leads but are relying on surveillance video showing the alleged suspect outside the complex.

Ferguson, an ICU nurse at St. Thomas West Hospital, was laid to rest in her hometown of Loretto on Saturday.

"She was loving, caring and would give you the shirt off of her back," said Kathy Staggs, a Loretto resident.

Meanwhile, questions remain for another nurse found dead almost three months ago.

Ashley Brown worked as a Certified Scrub Technician at St. Thomas as well before her body was discovered at a trash site in December.

Brown went missing after leaving a friend's apartment near Centennial Park the early morning hours of December 17th. Police said her body was dumped in a nearby dumpster before it was moved to the facility.

"We have definitely had our highs and lows. We still have times when it's sad, we miss Ashley," Trever Brown, Ashley's father, told NewsChannel 5 on the phone. "Why did they throw her away in a trash can of all things?"

Brown's family traveled from different parts of the country to hold a vigil in her honor and plead for someone to come forward. At the time, police said her autopsy results for her body were inconclusive.

"Unfortunately, we have not heard much. At this point we are just waiting for somebody to come forward with something," Trever added.

Trever has stayed in touch with detectives since his daughter's death. According to an MNPD spokesperson, the Medical Examiner is still working to determine the cause of death and to classify the death.

Meanwhile, Trever sends his condolences to Ferguson's family grieving their loved one's death.

"Our hearts and prayers just immediately went out to her parents," he said.

Anyone who recognize Ferguson's suspect seen in the surveillance video is urged to immediately call the Emergency Communications Center at 615-862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
