Victim Critically Injured In Madison Shooting

Detectives said they’re working to identify a gunman who shot and critically injured a man in Madison.

Officials said 24-year-old James Johnson Jr. was shot Friday afternoon while walking through the breezeway of his apartment in the Alto Loma Apartment complex in the 1500 block of Crestview Drive.

According to reports, the victim heard someone behind him, turned around, and saw the gunman.

Police said Johnson had a valid handgun carry permit and reached for his gun. The suspect shot him before he was able to fire.

Johnson was listed in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The motive for the shooting remained unknown.

Authorities described the gunman as a young black man with dreadlocks, standing around 5’10’’ tall. He was wearing a gray hoodie, black skinny jeans, and white tennis shoes.

Officials said the suspect may have fled from the scene in a small white newer model car with tinted windows.
