For some in the homeless community, Thanksgiving will be a little sweeter thanks to the work of volunteers.
That's why Pie Day was created. It’s a day to bake and deliver Thanksgiving pies to homeless shelters before the holiday.
In Nashville, a group called Project Rousseau brought its students to Green Door Gourmet to bake and then deliver about 30 pies.
Many of those students haven't had it easy growing up. Project Rousseau has been a non-profit that has helped young people who’ve gone through some kind of hardship.
They have participated in Pie Day every year.
“This project, especially making pies for the homeless, is really close to home with me because I used to be homeless for a little bit, so it's just a way for me to give back,” said Katherine Ledezma-Soto, of Project Rousseau.
Pie day has been an annual tradition that has spread all over the country.
