A warrant for especially aggravated robbery has been issued for a wounded 19-year-old.
Authorities said the warrant was in relation to a shooting at Bellevue Heights Apartments on Amberwood Circle early Thursday.
In that shooting, 24-year-old Newton Morgan was critically wounded. He was found by officers on the ground, injured around 3 a.m. Thursday.
Authorities also spotted a blood-stained white Nissan Sentra trying to leave the apartment complex when they arrived. It was confirmed the vehicle belonged to Morgan.
After attempting a pursuit, officials ended the chase when the Sentra displayed reckless behavior.
Later, the Sentra ended up at the emergency room of St. Thomas Hospital West. That’s when 19-year-old Maurice Hatcher went into the hospital with a gunshot wound to his face.
The driver of the Sentra fled from the hospital, and the vehicle was later found on fire around 9:20 a.m. Thursday at 18th Avenue North and Herman Street.
Authorities said they believe Hatcher was inadvertently shot by an accomplice during a robbery.
Officials confirmed the warrant for Hatcher meant he would immediately be taken into custody once he’s discharged from the hospital.
Reports stated Morgan was recovering and remained hospitalized.
The investigation remained ongoing in an attempt to identify other suspects, including whoever set the vehicle on fire.
