Police in Franklin have advised commuters to expect heavy delays after a water main ruptured in the downtown area.

The incident was reported Monday morning along Franklin Road near Liberty Pike. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in the area. Daniels Drive and Old Liberty Pike have also been closed at Franklin Road.

Officials with Franklin Police said Battle Ground Academy Lower Campus is closed as a result of the break.

Police said flaggers are in the area to allow travel in both directions, but heavy delays should be expected.

Repairs to the broken main could take several hours.

Police said homes and businesses in the area are without water.
