Jefferson Street remained blocked Monday as crews continued working on upgrading water lines in the area. This weekend's rainy weather played a big factor in the delay.
The road has been blocked from 14th Avenue North to 17th Avenue North, with traffic being detoured to Meharry.
Local traffic can still access Jefferson Street from 12th Avenue North but it’s closed at 16th Avenue South.
The closure was scheduled as part of Metro Water Services’ effort to upgrade aging water lines.
The street was expected to reopen at 6 a.m. Monday, but weather and hard rock have delayed the project. Jefferson Street won’t likely reopen until sometime Thursday morning.
A detour has been marked and additional officers are on site to help motorists.
