NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The cause of a fire that partially destroyed an abandoned home in west Nashville remains under investigation.

Heavy smoke and flames were seen when crews arrived at the home on 38th Avenue North and Charlotte Pike around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials said the residence was vacant, but someone may have been staying there.

"It appears someone was here -- the radio was on when the firefighters entered the structure. They did a search of the structure, didn't find anyone, and then extinguished the fire," said Nashville Fire District Chief Terry Secrest.

No injuries were reported.

Due to the extent of the damage, the home will be torn down.
