A woman has been charged with theft after allegedly stealing money from the Cheatham County Central High School band boosters.
The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office conducted a special investigation that showed Tracy Krantz stole at least $3,072 from the boosters.
The thefts occurred between July and October of 2013 when Krantz was serving as the band booster club treasurer.
Investigators discovered Krantz made unauthorized ATM withdrawals and kept the money.
She admitted to authorities she used the money for her house payments.
Krantz remitted $3,180 to the boosters to replace the funds she had taken.
Authorities said Krantz was indicted by a grand jury in March on one count of theft over $1,000.
“Many of the booster club thefts that we investigate can be prevented with better oversight,” said Comptroller Justin P. Wilson. “In this case, separating money handling responsibilities between individuals and having other officers review bank statements could have detected problems.”
Officials confirmed the Cheatham County Central High School Band Boosters was no longer an active organization. It was replaced by a new booster club created under the name "Cheatham County Central Band Boosters."
