LAFAYETTE, Tenn. – Wednesday, a high school marching band was left scrambling, trying to find replacement musical instruments after a truck accidentally ran over 24 of their flutes, clarinets and saxophones.

The incident happened at Macon County High School Tuesday afternoon, when the band director there said a student volunteer was getting in his truck to get the band some water, after some band students lined up their instruments on the ground, right in that truck's blind spot.

The driver accidentally backed over the instruments, making them unplayable.

Band members spent much of the day assuring the student it was just a simple accident, and ever since then, the band has received good news: Jupiter Band Instruments and even rival bands have come forward, offering to loan the band some replacement instruments.

“No matter what band program you're a part of, if you are a band member, you stick up your band kids,” said Bailey Howell, the Macon County band drum major. “No matter what county, or what school you come from, band kids are your family, no matter what.”

The band director said he thinks they already have enough loaned instruments to perform at a pep rally Thursday and a football game on Friday.
