NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Police said a suspect was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting just south of downtown Nashville.
The shooting happened Thursday night in a parking lot at 300 McCann Street. Metro police said 38-year-old Rojelio Rivera and 43-year-old Dean Kwatelai-Quartey were at the intersection of 3rd Avenue South and McCann Street when Rivera shot the victim “for no known reason.”
Kwatelai-Quartey walked to the parking lot to get help, but police said Rivera approached him and shot him again through a fence in the parking lot. From there, Rivera reportedly ran east on McCann Street.
Kwatelai-Quartey died at an area hospital.
Detectives later found Rivera behind a building at the intersection of McCann Street and 2nd Avenue South. Police said he was carrying a .45 caliber pistol.
According to investigators, Rivera has felony convictions from other jurisdictions. He’s now charged with criminal homicide and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon.
