NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Nashville Police detectives charged a man with criminal homicide in the New Year's Day shooting of 33-year-old Brandon Saunders.

Police say 23-year-old Erik Moreno, of Plantation Drive, shot and killed Saunders inside his home on Willesden Green Court.

Both Moreno and Saunders were allegedly intoxicated and handling pistols. It was initially unclear whether the fatal gunshot wound to Saunders’ head was accidentally self-inflicted.

The guns had been moved prior to police arrival shortly before 3 a.m. Detectives determined that Moreno fired the shot after re-interviewing a witness who was present.

Moreno was jailed in lieu of $250,000 bond.
