LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (WTVF) — Kentucky State Police have charged a man with one count of murder after an incident occurred with his girlfriend's one-year-old child on Thursday.
James Garrigus, 25, was originally charged with Physical Abuse of a Child but these charges were changed when the one-year-old passed away on Sunday, December 23.
A police trooper noticed Garrigus' vehicle speeding on the William Thomason Byway on Thursday and followed the car to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
Upon arriving at the medical center, police learned that Garrigus had been transporting his girlfriend's one-year-old to the hospital in order to obtain medical treatment.
The child was later transported to Norton's Children's Hospital in Louisville where it was later confirmed the victim had died of the injuries.
Garrigus is being held in the Grayson County Detention Center.
