NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A man has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication in connection to a crash on Sunday night that severely injured another man.

Metro police said Francisco Nuffio, 31, crossed over the double yellow line while driving on Bell Road and collided with another vehicle near Rice Road. Nuffio was allegedly drunk at the time of the crash, Metro police said.

The driver of the other vehicle, identified as 24-year-old Canales Landaverde, was trapped and unconscious when police arrived on scene. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and police said he later died on Wednesday night.

Metro police said Nuffio was treated at the scene. A search warrant was executed for a blood sample from Nuffio, which will be tested for alcohol and drug content.

He was arrested on Monday for vehicular assault and was released from jail after posting bail. On Wednesday night, officers arrested him again when the vehicular homicide by intoxication charge was added.
