An investigation got underway west of downtown Nashville after a man was killed in an early-morning shooting.

Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department said the man was shot on 41st Avenue North at Indiana Avenue just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday in an alleyway between apartment buildings.

The victim, later identified as 35-year-old Timothy Orlando White, was dropped off at Nashville General Hospital and then transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he later died.

The person who dropped him off at the hospital crashed into two parked cars near the scene of the shooting.

Police said they're looking for both the driver who took White to the hospital and the gunman in the case.

Officers said White was known to socialize in the area where the shooting took place. The motive for the shooting remained under investigation.

Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-75-CRIME (615-742-7463).
