DICKSON, Tenn. – A man has died following a shooting in which a deputy for the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office was involved.

The incident happened at a home on Freeman Loop Road in Dickson Friday afternoon.

Dickson County deputies were called to the home for a welfare check.

Shortly after they arrived one of the deputies shot a man, who was inside the home.

Specific details of the shooting were unknown, but Sheriff Bledsoe has confirmed that a man apparently threatened the officer.

The man was shot and taken to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

NewsChannel 5 talked to a family friend at the scene. "His sister said if you go down there I’m going to call the police; so I’m sure his sister told the police that," said Jason wall.

Sky 5 video showed officers were on the scene, where the home and a large portion of the yard was taped off.

Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were requested to assist in the case.

"During the interaction with that indevidual one of the deputies discharged a weapon striking the indevidual," said TBI's Susan Niland. "We don't know at this point what precipitated that exchange."

Neither the officer nor the suspect's name was released.

No additional details were known.
