NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A man has been arrested after he set his home on fire the same day police had been called to the residence for a domestic situation.
Around 4:30a.m. on Sunday, Michael Wortham allegedly entered the home he shared with his girlfriend and began pouring maple syrup all over her as she slept. Wortham's girlfriend claims to have awakened to him screaming and tossing the syrup around.
Wortham's mother, who was also sleeping at the residence, woke up to the commotion and told police she too had seen her son pouring maple syrup on the victim.
Later in the day on Sunday, a fire occurred at the same home.
Police found that the fire had been incendiary as it was set at several different locations in the home.
Footage from security cameras show Wortham entering the home and staying inside for a brief period. Minutes after Wortham left, smoke can be seen coming from the house.
Police have said that a combustible liquid was found in different rooms of the house and had been used as an accelerator.
Wortham is now charged with domestic assault and aggravated arson and remains in jail on a $51,000 bond.
