CENTERVILLE, Tenn. – A man facing first degree murder charges has been transferred to the Hickman County Correctional Facility.
According to a social media account for the Hickman County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old John Wayne Boyer, of Augusta, Georgia, was taken to the facility this week from North Carolina.
He was set to face first degree murder charges in the 2005 killing of 25-year-old Jennifer Smith who was found by a highway worker near an abandoned parking lot in Bucksnort.
Authorities said Boyer had been serving a sentence in North Carolina for a separate murder.
Officials believed Boyer strangled Smith with his truck’s seat belt then drove off back in April of 2005
Investigators said it took two years to match DNA found on the victim’s body to a sample Boyer gave.
Officials then got a confession from Boyer after he was confronted with the evidence.
Boyer was being held without bond and was set to be returned to North Carolina at the conclusion of this case.
