Police have identified a man who was hit and killed on Thanksgiving in Davidson County.
The incident happened at 5:15 p.m. Thursday on Old Hickory Boulevard at the Interstate 40 off ramp near Frist Boulevard in Hermitage.
Officials with Metro Nashville police said 46-year-old Roy W. Taylor was a solicitor who was in the roadway apparently trying to retrieve something when he was struck.
He died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Taylor was hit by a 2013 Ford Explorer being driven by 69-year-old John Craighead, of Old Hickory. Police said the preliminary investigation shows that Craighead was exiting I-40 with a green light.
He is believed to have been in the inside traffic lane. Craighead said that he swerved into the grass median in an effort to avoid striking Taylor, but was not successful.
A cardboard solicitation sign was found near him. Police said Craighead was uninjured.
