Man In Stolen Vehicle Arrested For Meth Possession

Posted

A man driving a stolen vehicle was arrested on multiple charges, including possession of meth for resale.

The incident happened Tuesday when a narcotics investigator with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle in the area of Rabbit Trail Road at the Tennessee/Alabama state line.

The driver was identified as 31-year-old Travis Eugene Montgomery, of Loretto, and the vehicle he was driving was determined to be stolen.

Montgomery was arrested for possession of stolen property, but that wasn’t the only issue authorities said they spotted.

It was believed Montgomery may have tried to get rid of drugs when the traffic stop was initiated.

Authorities said Montgomery has been known to them as a methamphetamine dealer. A search turned up a bag of fifty grams of a crystal substance that was identified as meth. Officials also seized around $1,000 in cash.

Montgomery was also charged with possession of a controlled substance schedule II for resale, theft of property, and driving on a revoked license.

He was being held at the Lawrence County Detention Center on a $72,000 bond.
