A man was shot dead after allegedly shooting his girlfriend overnight just south of downtown Nashville.
Officials with Metro Nashville Police said the man's girlfriend claimed he shot her at the Sudekum public housing development before he himself was fatally wounded.
Police later identified the deceased as 23-year-old Dallas Cato. The alleged victim was identified as 30-year-old Sammeca Hall.
The couple's daughter was reportedly the one who called 911. The ordeal reportedly began as a domestic violence incident along University Court.
Officers were called to the scene shortly before midnight and found that Hall had been shot in both legs from what may have been one bullet.
Cato was found dead minutes later from a gunshot wound. Police said he crashed his car on Carroll Street while attempting to leave the scene.
He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died early Wednesday morning. Police said Hall was in stable condition at Vanderbilt.
Detectives said they’re relying on witness statements, evidence, and possible surveillance to help piece it all together. They haven't yet ruled out the possibility that Cato shot himself.
