A suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Bradley County.

Officials with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said they were continuing to investigate the shooting that happened early Sunday morning in Charleston.

According to reports, a man had allegedly assaulted another man with a weapon at a home on Leyland Drive. He then fled from the scene on foot.

Officials from both the Charleston Police Department and the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

They found the man behind a church on Hiwassee Street. When authorities confronted him, he had weapons in both hands and did not obey commands.

Officials tried, unsuccessfully, to use a stun gun on the man, according to reports, but when the situation escalated, a deputy fired on the man.

The suspect died. His identity had not been released.

Agents with the TBI said they were collecting evidence and conducting interviewers. Further details were not immediately available.
