RUTHERFORD CO., Tenn. (WTVF) — A man was killed in a house fire in Murfreesboro Saturday afternoon.
Rutherford County officials say crews responded to the house on Asbury Lane around 12:30 p.m. They saw flames coming through the front door, with 25 to 50% of the home already engulfed.
Fire Captain Matthew Lupo was told a man was inside and went inside to search. He and another firefighter could not find the man.
After extinguishing the fire, crews found the body of the 54-year-old man in the back of the house.
His wife had been able to escape. She was taken to the hospital for burns and and smoke inhalation, and she is expected to recover.
Lupo and the other firefighter who searched the house were treated for minor burns.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
