A man was severely beaten and left in the parking lot of a Nashville market, and police have asked for the public's help in finding the suspect.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said it happened Saturday, July 16, outside of a market on John A. Merritt Boulevard.

According to police 57-year-old Ronald Lee Black was possibly panhandling when a man repeatedly punched Black in the face, slammed him to the ground, and then continued to kick his head against the pavement.

Black was severely injured in the assault and remained hospitalized.

The assault was recorded by the market's surveillance system. The suspect was a black man with a cornrow hair style and wore a dark colored T-shirt and khaki shorts.

Detectives asked anyone who may recognize him or have information on the case to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463 or send a tip by texting the word “CASH” along with the message to 274637.
