A man was injured in a shootout between him and deputies in Bedford County.

It happened just before 5 a.m. Saturday at a home on the 100 block of Higgins Road in Wartrace.

Deputies were responding to a shooting call. They found a man injured with a gunshot wound in the front yard, but as they were helping the man, someone else began shooting at them.

Deputies say Timothy Ledford was firing at the deputies from inside the front door. At least two deputies returned fire. Ledford was injured during the shootout and he retreated into the home.

During that time, they were able to help the man found in the yard and transport him to the hospital, but
a standoff with Ledford continued.

The Bedford County SWAT Team, the Shelbyville Police Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol were involved. After several hours, Ledford surrendered. Authorities arrested him and medics transported him to the hospital.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case.
