SMYRNA, Tenn. (WTVF) — A man was shot during a Smyrna robbery early Friday morning, before he escaped to a La Vergne home to call police.

According to Smyrna police, the shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. The victim visited the Roadway Inn on Plaza Drive in Smyrna.

When two black males arrived in a white Nissan Maxima, they entered the motel, before one of them exited the motel and got in the passenger side of the victim's car.

Smyrna police say the man who entered the victim's car asked for change for a $100 bill, and when the victim attempted to count change from his backpack, the suspect demanded the backpack and shot the victim in the leg.

From there, the victim drove to a La Vergne home on Summer Hill Lane and called police. While La Vergne police responded, Smyrna police took over the investigation.
