A man was taken to an area hospital after an apparent shootout outside a gas station just south of downtown Nashville.
The incident was reported around 5:25 a.m. Thursday at a Z Mart on Lafayette Street.
Officials with Metro Nashville Police said they believe there was a shootout between gunmen in two or three vehicles. The victim was believed to have gotten caught in the crossfire.
The man was shot in the neck and taken to an area hospital. The full extent of his injuries was unknown.
Bystanders were forced to take cover during the shootout. One woman reported hearing at least 20 shots.
At least one vehicle was also struck by gunfire.
Part of the Tony Sudekum apartments have been blocked off by crime scene tape. Police were working to obtain surveillance video from the area.
No information on suspects was immediately known.
