MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed by Rutherford County deputies on Friday, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations.

Deputies were sent to a home in the 2000 block of Mt. Herman Road for a report that a man cut himself. The TBI said the man, Christopher Mullins, came out with a knife. When he refused to put down the knife, at least one deputy fired shots.

Mullins was taken to a hospital in Nashville where he later died. No law enforcement officers were hurt.

Special agents with the TBI are actively continuing the investigation.
