Police have identified the man found shot to death in a south Nashville neighborhood overnight.

Officers received reports of shots being fired in the area near Turley Drive around 11:41 p.m. Thursday.

Officials with Metro Nashville Police said 32-year-old Nawzad Sindy was found fatally wounded on the sidewalk.

“According to witnesses, after the shots were heard a man was seen running to a black mid-size car, perhaps a Dodge Avenger or a Chevy Impala that was parked or sitting near Turly Drive and Lucky Drive," said Metro Police Spokesman Don Aaron. "We think there was someone else  in that car. The gunman got in the vehicle and quickly left the area.”

Sindy’s family said he frequently walked in the area.

According to police, robbery was possibly the motive.

“At this juncture the police department is considering  a robbery as a possible motive in that certain property that Mr. Sindy should’ve been carrying or was believed to be carrying by his family was not located,” Aaron said.

The shooting has left many neighbors on edge, including Jeremy Robertson, who was just getting home from work at the time.

"I've never heard of a shooting or a killing or anything else like that around here," he said. "[My] mind is shocked. You come home at 5 a.m. when you get off work and there's three news crews out here... and I roll down the window and start hearing about someone being shot."

Anyone who may have seen Sindy in the south Nashville area late Thursday night, perhaps in a market, or anyone with information on the gunman was asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
