NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Nashville police officers investigated a shooting that injured a man south of downtown late Wednesday night.

Officers were initially called to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, when a 36-year-old man walked into the emergency room with a gunshot wound, police said.

The victim told police he was a passenger in a car near Claiborne Street and Lafayette Street, when someone yelled out and the driver stopped at the intersection.

According to police, that person who yelled to the driver began shooting at the vehicle. The victim was struck in the shoulder and is expected to survive.

Officers said the gunman was unknown to both the driver and the victim.
