LEBANON, Tenn. – A driver has died after crashing his vehicle and fleeing on foot.

Officials in Wilson County said the wreck happened around 9 a.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of U.S. Highway 231.

A driver, identified as 32-year-old Logan H. Smith, was traveling north in a Dodge Ram when he entered a long right-hand curve. Authorities said Smith failed to stay in his lane, crossed over the southbound lane, left the road, and struck a cluster of trees.

Officers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said Smith then left the vehicle and fled on foot. He was found behind a home about 75 feet from the crash.

Smith’s sugar levels were tested at the scene and were found to be over 300. He was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he passed away Saturday evening.

According to reports, officials said warrants were obtained for Smith before they learned of his death. No further details were available.
