MANCHESTER, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Manchester man has been arrested following the assault of a United States Postal Service carrier, according to an arrest affidavit.

Deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for a welfare check on Blanton Chapel Road Wednesday. They were told a man - identified as 30-year-old Shane Elgouhary - was jumping into traffic.

When they arrived, the mail carrier told them Elgouhary jumped through the window of her mail van and grabbed at her.

The mail carrier sped off, causing Elgouhary to fall into the nearby ditch.

When the deputies found Elgouhary, he appeared to be high on some type of drug.

Elgouhary was taken into custody and charged with assault. His bond has been set at $3,000.
