COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Maury County commissioners have voted to close up the landfill situated next to Chickasaw Trace Park.
The 16 to 6 vote in favor of closing it came Monday night.
Since the spring, commissioners have been debating on how to move forward with the landfill, since it’s nearly full.
One option was to expand it into the park owned by the county, but private citizens would take care of it. That option upset many county residents who have spent the last several weeks voicing their concerns.
Monday night’s vote was the first step toward closing the landfill for good.
